Fossil-free microgeneration.
On site and on board.
Apugenius has developed the first fuel-flexible hydrogen-capable micro gas turbine technology that creates higher efficiencies for less cost and can meet the distinct electrification needs of the on-site and transport industries.
Discover our technologyThe APU50 Micro Gas Turbine
For the first time in decades of micro gas turbine development work electrical efficiencies above 37% have finally become achievable.
The APU50 provides carbon-free power with high efficiency for remote stationary and mobile application uses.
With higher efficiencies but also longer lifetime, lower Capex and wider fuel range, the APU50 is unmatched by any competitor in the clean power technology competition.
Flexible and Modular Solutions
On site and remote electric power supply
Apugenius micro gas turbines are setting the benchmark in their power range and provide one of the most efficient and reliable remote power supplies known to the tech world.
Because the APU50 is cutting-edge in electrical efficiency and compactness:
-
Our product enables a new range of competitive options for electrification of industrial work-site operations. Applications are for example in the on-site operations of the construction, agricultural, mining, forest, waste and wastewater treatment businesses.
-
Our product is a powerful, low-maintenance solution where affordable power supply and standby power capacity, enhanced energy independence and reduction of air pollution are required, altogether.
Off-road and
on-road transport
Apugenius offers the technology to electrify the heavy-duty vehicle fleets and thus reduce overall emissions from off-road and on-road professional transport. Because the APU50 is cutting-edge in energy efficiency and flexible in configuration:
-
Our product provides a powerful solution to replace the fossil-fuel engine of work machines and professional transport. Such are for example tractors and dump trucks, excavators, applications, buses, delivery trucks.
-
Our product is developed to meet the EURO 7 emission targets.
The Comprehensive Solution for Modern Power Needs
Electrical efficiency
Currently, the use of micro gas turbines is restricted to predominantly combined heat and power (CHP) supply, where lower levels of electrical efficiency are acceptable.
With record-setting levels of electrical efficiency, the APU50 will pioneer the use of micro gas turbines for replacement of fossil-fuel based reciprocating generator sets and engines. The APU50 proto provides electrical efficiency of 37±2% and specific power levels of 300W/kg.
The key benefit is clear ESG advantage: Higher electrical efficiency means less fuel is burned to achieve the same electricity output, and using less fuel means less cost and emissions in total.
Minimal reliance on rare-earth elements
Rare-earth elements are needed in exponentially growing quantities for the manufacture of battery packs and fuel cells for the automotive sector, which has escalated both the demand and price of battery and fuel cell products and the risk of energy dependence and environmental impacts of the automotive industry.
With the APU50, we concretely contribute to minimizing the need for precious earth resources, and the use of chemicals in the high-energy and high-power lithium-ion battery industry.
CHP operation
Battery electric vehicles use the battery energy to heat the cabin which negatively affects battery performance and life, driving range and driving comfort.
By contrast, APU50 powered electric vehicles can utilize the excess heat produced by the micro gas turbine for heating of the cabin. This process does not negatively affect vehicle efficiency and driving comfort in sub-zero temperatures, even better, the micro gas turbine operates at higher electrical efficiency levels.
Other benefits
In addition to the APU50 specific benefits, the inherent advantages of micro gas turbines are adding up the benefits of our product:
Greater fuel flexibility: can run on a broad range of renewable fuels, including hydrogen and hydrogen mixes. Unlike fuel cells, micro gas turbines do not require expensive, very pure hydrogen, which significantly reduces the operating costs of hydrogen fuel-based microgeneration.
Longer lifetime and less capex: runs on low specific operating and maintenance costs compared to competing electric power generating technologies.
Scalable: offers scalability options in the 25 kW…200 kW power range.
Low Noise: has low noise emissions.
Apugenius Technology
The APU50 is a 50-kW Auxiliary Power Unit micro gas turbine, designed to achieve the best possible energy and cost efficiency for powering stationary and mobile machinery with green fuels.
How APU50 works
The APU50 intercooled compressor-gas-turbine process, IP owned by Apugenius, is an innovation and a key factor that distinguishes our technology from all other micro gas turbine technologies. We have designed our own combustor and use an efficient recuperator unit to achieve maximum overall efficiency. The APU50 is designed to match flexible integration with cost-efficient production.
Rotating axis system
The powering heart of the APU50 is the innovative rotating axis system. For the gas turbine process to be efficient an intercooled compression process is required. The APU50 integrates the intercooled compression impellers, the 70 000 r/min electric drive system with liquid-cooled stator, and the turbine onto one shaft. Supported by a high-speed ball-bearing system, this enables high-efficiency compression work and unsurpassed electric efficiencies.
Flexibility and modularity
The APU50 integrates 99% efficient SiC converter techniques with high switching frequency and sinusoidal currents. This enables the generator to achieve higher efficiency. It also enables built-in control of the APU50.The APU50 enables a compact assembly solution where the combustor is integrated with the recuperator. This allows more flexible and compact configurations for implementation in a wide variety of customer applications.
